Thanks to generous funding support from the Marks Family Charitable Trust, the National Literacy Trust has teamed up with award-winning author Tom Palmer to produce free classroom resources to help schools commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day on Wednesday 27 January 2021 and throughout the week beginning Monday 25 January 2021. Resources are suitable for use with pupils aged 9 to 14 (Upper Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3).
Initial resources are now live on on our Holocaust Memorial Day page and comprise:
- A five-part story
- Videos and worksheets to support and inspire pupils to write their own responses
- A teacher guide with ideas and sources to support your delivery and children's writing
Additionally there will be
- An assembly presentation
- A live Q&A event with Tom and a holocaust survivor (TBC)
- The chance to win signed copies of Tom Palmer's book After The War
Resources build on themes and characters from Tom's title After The War, which follows children liberated from concentration camps arriving in the Lake District. After The War has been nominated for the 2021 Carnegie Book Award.
Full details on how to take part in the event will be announced soon. We'll be sharing further information through our social media channels and in our newsletters.
If you'd like to be notified directly with further information relating to added resources, the Q&A event and chance to submit pupils' writing, fill in your details below and we'll send you an email update.
