Celebrate literacy with sport

2024 is a huge year for sports, seeing competitive events such as Euro 24, Wimbledon and the Olympics being hosted around the world! This summer, we're encouraging teachers to get pupils' hearts racing and celebrate sport and literacy in their classroom. Children love all celebrations, so what better way to instil a love of literacy in your classroom than by celebrating literacy through sport?

Sport: a Hot Topic resource

Our Hot Topic resources help you to effortlessly integrate current events and engaging topics into your English lessons, library sessions or tutor time to foster essential literacy skills such as reading, writing, and oracy. In this resource, you will find:

  • Book recommendations to read aloud or share with pupils aged 4 to 14
  • Writing activities including film-inspired writing and reflective journals
  • Oracy activities including performance poetry and storytelling prompts

The activities are designed to be adaptable for teachers working across different age ranges, and for the time you have available.

You will find Olympic-inspired activities for EYFS as well as ways to interest your classes from early years to KS3 in reading, writing and more, through sports.
