Fundraising event ideas

How you can raise money for us
There are lots of ways you can put on an event and raise money for our work. We’ve put together a few ideas below:

Literature pub quiz
Hosting a book-themed quiz is a really straightforward way to raise funds. Just send us an email to receive your ready-made literature quiz, find a venue and let everyone know about it! Individuals could make a donation of £2 to take part.

Book swap party
Ask invitees to bring three books they’ve enjoyed to the party. These should be in a reasonable condition and put on display for everyone to see.

At the end of the party, attendees can choose three new books to take home and make a donation to the National Literacy Trust for the pleasure. We would suggest £10, or £3 per book that they take. If there are any books left over, you can donate these to Better World Books.

Let us know when you’re hosting your book swap party and we’ll make sure you’ve got everything you need including donation envelopes and gift aid forms, which help us claim up to an extra 25% on your guests’ donations.

Speed book club
A book club hosted speed-dating style!

Each enthusiastic reader is given an allotted amount of time for a ‘book date’ with other attendees. They’ll get the chance to socialise, receive book recommendations and then move on to the next date.

After your event
Count up your donations and write a cheque to the National Literacy Trust for the total – not forgetting any Gift Aid forms. Let attendees know how much you’ve raised and don’t forget to say thank you!

Then, put your feet up and have a well-earned rest in the knowledge that you’ve helped make a difference to the future success of disadvantaged children.
