To celebrate the 20th birthday of The Gruffalo, we are delighted to be launching an exciting writing competition with Macmillan Children’s Books. We're giving primary school pupils the chance to come up a story about ‘What happened next?’ to their favourite character in the book.

Taking inspiration from Julia Donaldson’s wonderful words and Axel Scheffler’s iconic illustrations, children can tell their story using prose, rhyme and/or pictures.

We have developed a range of exciting activities, colourful resources and eye-catching posters to bring creativity and storytelling to life in schools through the magical world of The Gruffalo.

All activities and resources will be available from 1 April, when the competition opens. The closing date is Sunday 30 June 2019.

The winning pupil will win a copy of the The Gruffalo signed by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, as well as a Gruffalo hamper. They will also win £250 worth of Pan Macmillan books for their school. What's more, the prizes will be presented in person by the Gruffalo!

Each of the 20 runners up will also win a signed copy of The Gruffalo.

Schools can register their interest in taking part in The Gruffalo competition from today. The first 100 schools to register will receive a copy of The Gruffalo play script.
