As of today, shoppers and bargain hunters on eBay will have the opportunity to donate to our work, through the eBay for Charity programme!
eBay for Charity raises money for charities each week by encouraging sellers to donate a percentage of money to a chosen charity, and buyers to add a donation at checkout.
All the money raised will be used to help us transform lives through literacy. The UK has a serious and growing literacy problem: one adult in six has very poor literacy skills and last year 25% of children left primary school unable to read properly. This increases to 40% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
In fact, England is the only country in the developed world in which adults aged 55 to 65 perform better in literacy and numeracy than those aged 16 to 24. In England, low literacy is more strongly related to poverty than in any other European country, apart from Romania.
We rely on the generous support of individuals to continue our vital work to transform children’s lives through literacy.
