Can you find the lost words hidden around Hastings?
The Lost Words Trail is a great way to spend time with your family and have fun exploring Hastings.
Complete the trail for the chance to win prizes!
The trail is inspired by The Lost Words: A Spell Book, written by Robert Macfarlane and illustrated by Jackie Morris, a book full of nature-themed words that are falling out of children’s common usage.
How to do The Lost Words Trail:
1 – Download or collect a trail map and head to one of the venues:
- White Rock Theatre *
- Hastings Library *
- Hastings Lifeguards
- Play hut
- Hastings Lifeboat Station *
- East Hill lift lower station
- Hastings Fishermen’s Museum *
- Shipwreck Museum *
* Free copies of the The Lost Words Trail map are available at the starred venues and also at Hastings Museum and the tourist information centre.
2 – Find a lost word! These will be hidden on or near the venue…check the walls, windows and floor outside!
3 – Fill the lost word in on your trail map.
4 – Complete the activity with your family.
5 – Once you have completed the trail, unscramble the letters you wrote in the small boxes to find the hidden seven-letter word.
6 – Fill in your details and the hidden word on the map and hand into Hastings Library to enter the prize draw. You can also enter by emailing your details and the hidden word to firstname.lastname@example.org.
