Disciplinary literacy in KS3 mathematics
This course
This online training involves two hour-long sessions and introduces teachers to interactive discussion and vocabulary activities for mathematics learning

Course content
During the course staff will:
- Understand what is meant by disciplinary literacy in mathematics
- Use evidence from research to investigate effective literacy strategies for speaking, reading and vocabulary development in mathematics
- Explore strategies for improving comprehension of multi-stage word problems
- Identifying and using command words in mathematics
- Developing and designing spoken tasks
Audience
Teachers of mathematics at KS3 who teach groups with weaker communication skills. It may also support higher-level teaching assistants working with SEN and EAL learners in maths lessons
