Story Quests are activity trails that take families on adventures around their local area. Guided by an exciting story they explore a local outdoor space while they complete physical and written challenges, meet local celebrities, discover fascinating facts and travel through time to uncover local history.

In the latest Story Quest, Stoke Squad vs. Magpie Man, brand new characters Finn, Izzy and Theo use their superpowers to fight off an evil villain.

Government advice and Sport England state that staying active during times of social distancing is important for both physical and mental wellbeing. Story Quest trails enable families to follow government guidelines while doing an exciting activity together in a local green space, providing a fun alternative to going to the playground.

Story Quest trails are aimed at families with primary school aged children and suitable for all levels of fitness. There are eight trails to take part in, at the following locations:

  1. Tunstall Park (two trails)
  2. Burslem Park (two trails)
  3. Ford Green Hall
  4. Westport Lake
  5. Tunstall town centre
  6. Burslem town centre

Families are encouraged to share photos of themselves on their Story Quest on the Stoke Reads Facebook page. From Monday 20 July, families can enter a prize draw to have their adventure preserved in print; one lucky family will have their photograph turned into an illustrated Story Quest family portrait by local artist Chloe Breeze. Chloe is illustrating a future Story Quest that will be released later in the summer.

Lois Bateman, Story Quest Project Manager, said: “We’re delighted to have a brand new story to share with families in Tunstall. We know that Story Quests inspire families to try a new activity together and increase parents’ confidence to share stories with their children, and Tunstall Park is a great space for families to explore together. We hope that as lockdown restrictions ease more families feel confident to get outside and enjoy a fun adventure together.”
