Competition terms and conditions

The National Literacy Trust in Peterborough has teamed up with The Cresset Theatre and YMCA Trinity to launch a magical, chocolatey competition inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to encourage reading for pleasure and creativity in the city's young people.

The competition invites young readers to dream up their own scrumptious chocolate bar and design an eye-catching wrapper and advert to promote it.

Charlie and Choc Roald Dahl Middlesbrough Reads writing challenge

For KS1, children will design a wrapper and describe what their chocolate bar is called and what it tastes like. KS2 participants will go a step further by creating an advert, thinking about mystery ingredients, taste, effects of eating the bar, and crafting a catchy slogan. KS3 students will focus on persuasive language and layout, identifying their target audience and designing a compelling advert to match.

This is a chance for children to unleash their creativity, explore storytelling through design, and maybe even see their work featured in a live theatre production!
