Learning Bradford's history!
Parents from St Mary's & St Peter's Catholic Primary school visited the Bradford Industrial museum to find out more about the town's rich history. The parents also saw the Bradford education exhibition that was created to celebrate 150 years since The Elementary Education Act of 1870.
Holi festival celebration
Parent champions from St Mary's & St Peter's Catholic Primary School performed in front of children at the Thornbury Primary Leadership Academy. The celebration of 'Holi' an Indian festival which celebrates the arrival of spring, celebrating good conquering evil. Families gather and celebrate by covering and throwing bright coloured powdered in the streets.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory fun in Tong
Children and parents in Tong enjoyed a fantastic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed event. Families took part in sweet cooking activities, 'oompla lumpa' themed crafting, word searches and puzzles and each received a free copy of the Roald Dahl book to take home.
Families have a super time at Bradford Academy
Parents at Bradford Academy enjoyed creating superheroes and reading comics with their children. Comic books are filled with high-energy plots, striking illustrations and punchy language, making them brilliant for reluctant readers and great for parents to read along with their kids.
Book club review at St Mary's & St Peter's Catholic Primary
Parents met up again at St Mary's & St Peter's Catholic Primary school to discuss The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul by Deborah Rodriguez. The parents really enjoyed the book and one said, 'the story is told through tradition and cultural values, something we can relate to.'
Parents book club
Parents at St Mary’s St Peter’s Primary School launched their own parents book club this week as part of our Inspiring Parents project in Bradford! Here they are enjoying a cup of tea while discussing The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul by Deborah Rodriguez. Parents discussed what they liked about the book and themes, and commented that characters were very real.
Parents perform at St Marys St Peters
Following on from activities centred around family stories, the Parent Champions at St Marys St Peters Catholic Primary discussed the idea of performing the Diwali story on stage.
This lead to a group of parents and Parent Champions who, in their own time, created props and costumes and recreated the story of Diwali. They then performed it to the whole school! It was the first time any of them had performed in front of an audience like this and it was a huge success!
Diwali is the biggest festival in Hinduism and the Raam and Sita story is retold during this period.
Remembrance Day
Families at Knowleswood Primary School in Bradford took part in special literacy activities over two weeks to learn more about Remembrance Day.
Holmewood Connect
Children and parents enjoyed activities at this Holmewood Connect summer event. Here families can be seen taking part in our comic strip competition!
The Royal Armouries Museum
Our partners at Lancaster Rail provided free travel for a group of families from St Mary's & St Peter's Catholic Primary School to visit The Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds. Check out one of the parents trying on a suit of armour as they learnt about armour from around the world!
