Learning about an event such as the Olympics can provide a cross-curricular opportunity to, amongst other things, develop communication and language skills and demonstrate writing for a purpose. This theme lends itself well to children who love to be active and prefer to take their learning outside.
In this resource, the story of The Frog Olympics is used to spark the children’s interest. There are then ideas and resources that can be set up across the week to inspire the children to take part in activities that include writing for a purpose. All the activities that the children engage in during continuous provision and in adult-led time can be collated, observed and recorded in order for you to hold your own mini-Olympic games at the end of the week.
