We’ve teamed up with Morrisons and our publishing partners to donate more than 175,000 brand new children’s books to families across the UK who are relying on food banks during this challenging time.
The books will be placed in Morrisons food bank collection points in all 494 of its stores nationwide. Morrisons in-store Community Champions will then work with local charities to give the books to disadvantaged families.
Our research shows that when children own books, they do better at school and are happier with their lives. However, 1 in 11 of the UK’s most disadvantaged children don’t have a single book of their own at home and – with public libraries closed and most schools closed to the majority of pupils as a result of COVID-19 – access to the life-enhancing world of books is even further out of reach. This initiative hopes to change that.
“There has never been a more important time to get books into the hands of children who need them most. By bringing the magical world of stories into children’s homes, this initiative will provide much needed inspiration and comfort during a time of uncertainty.”
