What is Haunted Birmingham?
Haunted Birmingham is a call-out for local people to write spooky stories set in Birmingham.
This winter campaign aims to promote writing for pleasure, connect people to the local environment, and celebrate Birmingham's gothic literary heritage.
Haunted Birmingham event for teachers and community workers
Before we promote Haunted Birmingham to the public, we'd like to invite teachers and community workers for a training and networking event.
We are particularly looking for colleagues who work with:
- Primary students aged 9-11
- Secondary students aged 11-18
- Adults
The event will include:
- An optional FREE canal trip from the International Conference Centre to the University of Birmingham (the majority of stories submitted last year were canal based!)
- Guidance from the National Literacy Trust on how to support your community to participate in Haunted Birmingham
- Free (three-session) planning resources distributed
- Printed submission booklets available to take away
- An entertaining talk from Dr Jimmy Packham, exploring Birmingham's rich heritage of gothic literature
- Refreshments
- Networking opportunities with other Birmingham literacy practitioners
