A statement from project organisers Wild in Art:
"The team at Peterborough BookBench Trail has decided to delay delivery of this project for the time being, as a precautionary measure to help minimise the impact of Covid-19 (Coronavirus). We look forward to bringing colour and conversations to the city over the months ahead, and we will share new dates in due course.
There are several compelling reasons for this:
- We want to give you enough time to design and decorate your BookBenches. With schools closing and the uncertainty about when they might reopen, we do not want to impose any unnecessary deadlines for the time being.
- Art trails attract many thousands of families and visitors of all ages and we want to ensure that the health and wellbeing of our trail-goers, visitors and staff is our first priority.
- It is likely that visitor numbers will be impacted as people make their own judgements about the risks of attending public events and the growing need to self-isolate to protect others.
A lot of hard work and planning has gone into Peterborough BookBench Trail and while it is very disappointing, we feel that the decision to postpone now is the appropriate course of action. This decision has been taken in consultation with our key partner the National Literacy Trust.
We are working hard with our partners to plan new trail dates in the coming months which will not only enable residents and visitors to enjoy the trail safely but will also ensure that this celebration of young people’s creativity is given the profile it deserves."
