Elves took over Orton on Friday 2 December when the Peterborough Reads team visited early years settings to spread some festive cheer.
Over 150 children were invited onto the Peterborough Reads book bus to hear some Santa stories and take home a book to enjoy with parents and caregivers.
Six settings in the PE2 area were visited: Herlington Pre-school, Orton Child & Family Centre, Orton St John Pre-school, Braybrook Nursery, Winyates Preschool and Stars Nursery Bushfield. Some local childminders attended the session too.
“We had so much fun bringing Elves on the Bus to 151 young children in the Ortons. The bus gives us such a lovely opportunity to encourage children, families and practitioners to see how fun reading can be.”
Sally Atkinson, Manager for Peterborough Reads
New research from the National Literacy Trust, published last week, revealed that around 20% of children in the East of England have fewer than 10 books at home. The more books children have access to at home, the more likely they are to say they enjoy reading and the more likely they are to read daily.
