Meet the authors:

Matt Oldfield

Matt Oldfield

Matt Oldfield grew up in Southampton, playing football with his brother Tom. The two brothers are the authors of the bestselling Ultimate Football Heroes series – fun football biographies that tell the exciting life stories of superstars like Gareth Bale, Lionel Messi and Mo Salah, from the playground through to the pitch. The Johnny Ball books are Matt's first fiction series. He lives in North London.

With the literacy attainment gap growing wider and wider during these difficult times, I believe it's more important than ever to make reading and writing engaging and accessible to all.

So, I'm delighted to be working with the National Literacy Trust to support their brilliant new Connecting Stories scheme and help encourage and empower children and young people to unlock their creativity.

"I'm thrilled to support the National Literacy Trust's excellent Connecting Stories initiative. Books are magic doorways that lead to amazing new experiences and offer us unique opportunities to make sense of our world and ourselves.

There's nothing more exciting than opening a book and being transported somewhere new."
