Over summer 2019, 8,940 primary children in Manchester joined the Summer Reading Challenge, with 845 new library members. 69% of those joining (6,148) completed reading all six books, a 17% increase on last year.
The children were challenged to read six library books during the school holidays and were rewarded with a medal and certificate on completion. Libraries offered a lively programme of activities, crafts and entertainment alongside the reading offer, and encouraged young people to volunteer.
"Both of my boys love having stories at bedtime, the Space Chase has encouraged them to read during the day too, so they earn their stickers and complete the challenge."
