Our #Take10ToRead campaign encourages people of all ages to drop everything and read for just 10 minutes and experience the wellbeing benefits of reading. Our research shows that reading for enjoyment can help you relax and boost your mood, as well as supporting the vital literacy skills needed to succeed at school, work and in life.
The campaign in 2024
Thank you to everyone who joined our Take 10 to Read campaign this year on World Mental Health Day (Thursday 10 October) to make it bigger than ever.
- We gifted a total of 2,500 books to staff, patients and relatives at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and The Christie, while talking about the benefits of reading for 10 minutes a day.
- We teamed up with Read for Good, whose professional storyteller made their regular visit to the wards at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, bringing a fresh supply of books for their mobile bookcase and engaging children and their families in the joy of books and stories.
- 3,445 children from 18 Manchester schools joined three bestselling authors in virtual events, aimed at inspiring a love of books and reading.
- 100 local schools also received special book collections, which included 10 books to share with their pupils to encourage reading for pleasure.
We had some lovely feedback from the Christie:
“As a healthcare worker it was lovely to get a nice book to read, disconnect from work and come back stronger for another shift.” – Member of staff at The Christie
“What a brilliant idea. I am currently undergoing treatment at The Christie and being able to read is very important at times. The value of reading at any age is so beneficial.” – Patient at The Christie
