Manchester Reading Ahead

reading ahead

Choose six reads and challenge yourself to get Reading Ahead

Manchester Reading Ahead invites you to pick six things to read - then record, rate and review them in a special diary to get a certificate.

Developed by The Reading Agency, the programme is part of the Read Manchester campaign from Manchester City Council and the National Literacy Trust.

Thousands of people across the UK have already taken part in Reading Ahead, rediscovering a love of reading.

You can choose to read:

  • Books (or e-books)
  • Newspapers or magazines
  • Comics and graphic novels
  • Poems
  • Plays
  • Websites

You could also choose six children’s books and enjoy them with your children or grandchildren. Reading is a great way to spend time together as a family.

How to take part

Ask if they are running Reading Ahead at your:

  • Place of work
  • College or university
  • Child’s school or children’s centre
If they are, they will give you a free reading diary and get you started. Then, when you return your completed diary to them, you'll receive your certificate.

You can also visit your local Manchester library to take part. The staff will give you a diary and help you find six things to read, based on your likes and interests. Alternatively, visit the national Reading Ahead website for help finding your next read and to log your reads online.
