Become a school gates volunteer in Blackpool

Could you work with other parents to improve your children's literacy at home?

The National Literacy Trust in Blackpool school gates volunteers project is a parental engagement programme available to selected primary schools in Blackpool. It encourages parents to work together and find fun ways to support their child’s learning at home.

School gates volunteers will be trained and supported to lead sessions that promote literacy skills in their school community. Over six weekly sessions, parents will prepare an activity that they can do with their child in the second half of the session. They will be focused around topics such as reading for pleasure, healthy lifestyles and picture and word trails.

Towards the end of the project, parents will have the opportunity to learn more about locally-available adult learning opportunities through a visit from an English functional skills tutor.
