This course

Two 90 minute CPD sessions

Between session reading and GAP tasks

Part 1: Wednesday 28th February 2024 15:30-17:00

Part 2: Wednesday 13th March 2024 15:30-17:00

Course content

The online or in-person CPD introduces teachers to both theory and practice of disciplinary literacy in physical education or sports science

In part one, teachers will:

  • Use evidence from research and theory to investigate effective literacy strategies for teaching and learning in physical education
  • Use oral discussion and modelling strategies to build subject knowledge and vocabulary
  • Develop knowledge and strategies for teaching vocabulary, etymology and morphology

In part two, teachers will:

  • Understand how audience and purpose define language choices
  • Be able to use active reading strategies to engage with a variety of subject texts.
  • Use models and sentence combining strategies to improve extended answers at KS4
