This online training involves two 90-minute sessions

Course content

• Uses evidence from research and theory to investigate effective literacy strategies for teaching and learning in English
• Explores the use of reading strategies to support active reading of fiction, non-fiction and 19th century literary texts
• Considers strategies to support the acquisition of academic vocabulary
• Reviews key writing conventions for evaluative writing
• Discusses the use of academic writing tools to support analytical writing

Audience

• Non-specialists teaching English
• Early career English teachers seeking to refresh their understanding of disciplinary literacy in English  
• Teaching Assistants supporting English
