Building Vocabulary in the Secondary Curriculum

This course

This online training involves two 90-minute sessions.

Tickets can be purchased for individual parts of the training, or both parts

Building Vocabulary part one: Whole school leadership

Examine recent research into the vocabulary gap and its correlation with attainment
Consider the role of academic language in the curriculum and the challenge of the ‘vocabulary jump’ at transition
Support subject leaders to plan a strategic approach to the teaching of vocabulary

Building Vocabulary part two: Teaching and learning

Develop an understanding of indirect and direct vocabulary acquisition
Explore strategies to support direct vocabulary teaching in a range of curriculum subjects
Build knowledge of word morphology and how to teach it
