Course content
Building Vocabulary part one: Whole school leadership
- Examine recent research into the vocabulary gap and its correlation with attainment
- Consider the role of academic language in the curriculum and the challenge of the ‘vocabulary jump’ at transition
- Support subject leaders to plan a strategic approach to the teaching of vocabulary
Building Vocabulary part two: Teaching and learning
- Develop an understanding of indirect and direct vocabulary acquisition
- Explore strategies to support direct vocabulary teaching in a range of curriculum subjects
- Build knowledge of word morphology and how to teach it
