About this course
Learn how to develop the academic reading skills that students need to access knowledge and concepts in all subjects, and to do well in their exams.
This online training course exploring Reading for learning in a secondary setting involves two 90-minute sessions

Who should attend
This two-part course explores the importance of developing academic reading skills to enable students to access the curriculum in all subjects. It is suitable for all subject teachers, who would like to learn how to support reading in their subject, and for literacy leaders, who have a remit for developing reading skills across the curriculum.

What you will gain from attending
In the two 90-minute sessions, you will learn about:
- The skills and processes of learning to read
- The skills and processes of reading to learn
- How to support reading comprehension in subject-specific (disciplinary) texts
- The importance of selecting appropriate texts
- Active reading strategies, which can be applied in subjects
- Strategies to support and engage reluctant readers
- Strategies to support EAL readers

To participate fully in a session, you will need a working microphone and camera. Please note, sessions are not recorded.
