Who should attend
This course is ideal for secondary literacy leaders, teaching assistants, and teachers of all subjects who are interested in deepening their understanding of phonics within a secondary school context.

Please note: as the content is specifically tailored to the secondary phase, it is not suitable for primary practitioners.

Participants will gain a clear understanding of what phonics is and explore common phonics-related barriers to learning that may affect students in secondary classrooms. The training will enhance your awareness of the challenges learners with weak phonics skills may face in accessing the curriculum and will equip you with some practical strategies to support adaptive teaching in mainstream settings.

  • Focused strategies for adaptive teaching to support students who struggle with phonics
