Who should attend
This two-part course explores the role of literacy in the secondary geography curriculum, and how to promote ways of developing talk, reading and writing in this subject. It is suitable for subject leaders and teachers, who are new to, or developing their understanding of disciplinary literacy in geography.

What you will gain from attending
In the two 90-minute sessions, you will learn about:
- How teaching subject-specific (disciplinary) literacy skills can unlock subject content in geography
- A range of practical classroom strategies on how to teach literacy skills in geography, with examples
- How to develop students’ geographical vocabulary e.g. the use of morphology
- How to use a range of active reading strategies to enable students to engage with geographical texts
- How to improve students’ writing in geography: how to develop informal talk into formal writing and exploring a process for how reading can improve extended writing in geography

To participate fully in a session, you will need a working microphone and camera. Please note, sessions are not recorded.
