Isle of Wight Challenge

Isle of Wight 1

Challenge yourself against the spectacular backdrop of the spectacular Isle of Wight southern cliffs, whilst raising funds to stop the cycle of poverty and low literacy in the UK's most disadvantaged communities.

Key event information

Date: 1 to 2 May 2027

Location: Isle of Wight - Coastal Path, Chale Basecamp

Distance: 25km, 50km and 106km options

Great challenges need great settings and this one doesn't disappoint. Your challenge will take you along the spectacular southern cliffs, past the Needles, and up to historic Cowes.

For ‘Full Island’ challengers it’s on to historic Ventnor, and back to our basecamp in Chale after an epic 106 km journey.

You’ll get full support all the way, and with 50km and 25km Island Challenges, the ‘Southern 50k Loop’ and 10 mile ‘Cowes Medina Estuary’ options – there’s a Challenge for every ability and interest.

Southampton and Portsmouth ferries make crossing easy – and Ultra Challenge have a range of transfers for foot passengers too.

How will my fundraising help?

£50 could help train an early years volunteer to support parents and carers to develop their children’s early language, communication and literacy skills.

£100 or more could contribute towards our work in areas of the UK where low literacy and poverty are having the most serious impact on children’s and families’ lives, helping us to reach those who need us most, supporting literacy in the community, in school and at home.

£300 could inspire a class of children to read for pleasure through a 10-week motivational programme working with the Premier League.

What will I get if I sign up?

  • National Literacy Trust t-shirt or running vest
  • Dedicated fundraising support from the National Literacy Trust Fundraising and Events team
  • A fully signed route, with a team of 'Trekmasters' out on the trail to support you
  • Regular rest stops, with free food and drink, massages and medics
  • An epic finish line moment, with a glass of fizz, medal and t-shirt
  • Camping, transfer and parking options to make travelling to and from the event easy
