
VE Day activities for schools
We're proud to be partnering with Royal British Legion again this year on a remarkable project of literacy resources that will mark the 80th annniversay of VE Day and support pupils in connecting with Remembrance through non-ficition and fiction texts.
Learning Sequences: Stories for Remembrance
Our Stories for Remembrance project aims to support teachers in exploring Remembrance stories in the classroom, both fiction and non-fiction whilst developing key literacy skills inspired by stories from the Second World War.
Included in the resources:
- A session for pupils to explore VE Day and stories of Remembrance for pupils aged 5 to 7 (KS1/P1 to P3).
- A session for pupils to explore VE Day and stories of Remembrance for pupils aged 7 to 11 (KS2/P4 to P7).
- A session for pupils to explore VE Day stories of Remembrance for pupils aged 11 to 14 (KS3/S1 to S3).
- A teacher guide for pupils aged 5 to 14 which includes a range of classroom activities aimed to develop key reading, writing and oracy skills. Each activity focuses on ‘Why it is important to remember stories from the Second World War?” and a specific literacy focus.
- A guide for how to host a VE day celebration in your school.
- An assembly to introduce the celebration event (For pupils aged 5 to 14/KS1-KS3/P1to S3)
