Supported by Amazon, we have created a fun, interactive storytelling project for National Storytelling Week with poet Simon Mole, and musician Gecko, for pupils aged 3 to 5 years.
Based on the theme ‘Soundtrack your story’, the project is designed to spark imaginations and inspire a love of story creation through poetry, rhythm, and bugs!

Early years resources
Our National Storytelling Week resource for the early years is suitable to use with children aged 3 to 5 years. It is inspired by Simon Mole’s book ‘A First Book of Bugs’.
The resource is supported by two short films of the exceptionally talented Simon Mole and Gecko, performing Simon’s ‘Earthworms’ poem, alongside their interactive and highly inspiring, songs, rhythm and storytelling. There is a British Sign Language version of both videos (please see below).
The resource consists of a week of session plans, which can be used to support daily planning, or dipped into for inspiration, a booklist, and guidance on encouraging and supporting storytelling within continuous provision.
It also includes a home learning resource, to support you to encourage storytelling at home.
Please download the Early years resources from the files list, found at the end of the page below the recordings.
