Welcome to the Marcus Rashford Book Club!
The Marcus Rashford Book Club is a collaboration between iconic international football player and child food poverty campaigner Marcus Rashford MBE and Macmillan Children's Books.
The Book Club aims to encourage and nurture a love of reading in children and get free books to the children who need them the most. Six per cent of children in the UK say they do not have their own book at home, which equates to over 400, 000 children in the UK (Book Ownership in 2021).
Marcus read his first book at the age of seventeen, and credits this with changing the direction of his life, which is why the Marcus Rashford Book Club has delivered over 100,000 free books to children living in the most disadvantaged areas.
You can find more information about the book club, plus resources for the latest title selected, on our Marcus Rashford Book Club page.
Introducing The 13-Storey Treehouse
The autumn 2022 Book Club choice was the award-winning, best-selling The 13-Storey Treehouse, written by Andy Griffiths and illustrated by Terry Denton. It is the first book in the wacky Treehouse adventures series, in which the laugh-out-loud story is told through a combination of text and fantastic cartoon-style illustrations.
Andy and Terry live in the WORLD'S BEST treehouse! It's got a giant catapult, a secret underground laboratory, a tank of man-eating sharks and a marshmallow machine that follows you around and shoots marshmallows into your mouth whenever you're hungry! Just watch out for the flying cats, or the mermaids, or the sea monsters pretending to be mermaids, or the giant mutant mermaid sea monster… Oh, and, whatever you do, don't get trapped in a burp-gas-filled bubble…
Well, what are you waiting for? Come on up!
Classroom resources for The 13-Storey Treehouse
We partnered with the publisher Macmillan Children’s Books to create exclusive materials to accompany The 13-Storey Treehouse.
These resources are suitable for use with pupils aged 7 to 9 - KS2: Years 3 and 4, or P4 and P5 (Scotland), and are free for teachers to download and use. The resources include five 20-minute session plans all aiming to foster reading for pleasure with literacy-focused book response activities, including the opportunity for pupils to design their own storey for Andy and Terry’s treehouse.
Not every child needs a copy of The 13-Storey Treehouse to take part – the activities are all based around chapters one to three, included in the pupil activity pack.
Resources include
- A teacher’s guide with five reading for enjoyment activity plans and curriculum links
- An activity pack for every child in your class, including chapters one, two and three of the book
- An introductory video from Andy Griffiths himself
- Our 13 Storey Challenge - a fun quiz to test your knowledge of chapters 1-3
