Words Rising is a project delivered by the National Literacy Trust in partnership with Anawim Women’s Centre. Through monthly workshops led by a guest facilitator, the project aims to create a safe and judgement-free zone where participants can express themselves and create bonds through creative writing.

This 2024 report presents insight collected from 107 participants and 13 authors since 2022. It shows that:

  • Nearly all participants felt the workshop encouraged them to read and write more, and nearly all agreed it made them feel more confident in their reading and writing skills.
  • Nearly all participants agreed that the workshop made them feel better in general and that their story was worth sharing.
  • For many participants gaining skills and confidence in reading and writing was their favourite part and the authors were a clear inspiration, sparking them to want to continue reading and writing.
