Encouraging pupils to engage with reading at Wychall Primary

ks1 books

Kelvin Brown, Governor at Wychall Primary School in Birmingham, had been looking for ways to help pupils engage with reading and to enjoy the benefits it can bring. As part of this process, he took part in the Foyle Primary School Library Course.

Kelvin said:  “The Foyle Primary School Library Course has been a timely opportunity for me to learn more about how we can help children enjoy reading, some of the things we can do to engage with parents. Collaboration with other schools, local libraries and agencies which may be able to help us improve our offer and not least, provide ideas around making the libraries more attractive places to work, learn and relax in.”

Kelvin feels the course has provided new ideas that he is looking forward to putting into practice.

“The course has been most instructive and contains some very inspiring ideas from schools and individuals. I would recommend this course to anyone who has an interest in helping our young people engage with reading and enjoy the boost to the children's confidence and well-being that can result.”
