Our Read On Nottingham campaign is working in partnership with leading independent children’s publishing house Usborne to launch a new initiative for families of children in the early years.
To celebrate 20 years of the bestselling touchy-feely That’s not my… books, Usborne is providing Read On Nottingham with a donation of the well-loved books, interactive materials and generous funding to support programmatic activity and new co-branded collateral.
Usborne is the leading independent children’s publisher in the UK, creating engaging, innovative and accessible books for children of all ages. Their books are written to appeal directly to children at every stage in their lives, from newborn baby to young adult.
As part of the project, Usborne will be offering support to our Early Words Together at Two programme in areas of Nottingham that are new to the Read On Nottingham campaign. The programme will help children with parents who are likely to have low literacy skills themselves, and encourage families to make reading a priority in the home.
Usborne will also be donating a large number of the That’s not my… books to be given out at Read On Nottingham community events over the summer. This will ensure that children who may not have books of their own will have access to high-quality books to enjoy at home. Parents will also receive Read On Nottingham and Usborne co-branded flyers that will encourage families with young children to engage with the books’ characters and enjoy a love of reading.
Emily Landsborough, Read On Nottingham Manager, said:
“We’re thrilled to be working with Usborne and the brilliant That’s not my… books. The stories are perfect for inspiring disengaged families to read together, thanks to the interesting textures, such as bumpy teeth or slippery flippers, and simple text and illustrations, which we know are great for helping children develop sensory and language awareness.
“We would encourage families in Nottingham to visit our community book-gifting events, starting with Bulwell Arts Festival in July and ending with Nottingham City Homes Fun Day in September, where they’ll be able to take home plenty of Read On Nottingham and That’s not my… goodies!”
