MFC footballers give out books

The Middlesbrough Reading Campaign joined up with MFC Foundation to offer children free books and festive fun meeting top Middlesbrough FC football players yesterday.

Top Middlesbrough FC players including Grant Leadbitter, Jamal Blackman, Connor Ripley and Muzzy Carayol all helped hand out over 100 books, donated by WH Smith to children at James Cook University Hospital and Corpus Christi Primary School as part of Christmas goody bags.

This year, the Middlesbrough Reading Campaign has been working with MFC Foundation to promote books as a fun way for families to spend time together by providing books for the club’s Generation Red Family Zone for families to enjoy on match days.

Allison Potter, the National Literacy Trust’s Middlesbrough Hub Manager says: “We are delighted to be working with MFC Foundation to spread the joy of reading through the power of football. We hope the children enjoy their new books and we look forward to supporting MFC Foundation’s community work next year.”
