What will you find at the National Literacy Trust primary conferences?

The aim of our primary conferences is to celebrate best practice and explore the issues most significant to primary practitioners through a combination of thought leadership and workshops.

The National Literacy Trust primary conferences provide an opportunity for primary practitioners to network, share best practice and learn. At the National Literacy Trust we work with communities, schools and the home learning environment to improve the literacy levels and life chances of the most disadvantaged children in the UK. In partnership with policy makers, practitioners and academics we will examine how these elements intersect, and explore how they can be maximized to improve primary literacy and close the word gap.

Primary conference 2025: Raising voices, raising literacy

We are delighted to announce that our next primary practitioner conference will take place in Bradford on Thursday 27 March 2025. We will celebrate the power of written and spoken language.

Writing for enjoyment enhances creativity, self-expression and mental wellbeing; yet, as recent research shows, writing enjoyment levels are at an all-time low. As the incoming Labour Government pledges to raise standards by focusing on “essential digital, speaking, and creative skills”, we will explore why and how to develop authentic self-expression through multiple channels in the primary classroom.

Why attend our primary conferences?

  • Network and share best practice

Current whole-school premium members receive a discount on conference places, and non-members will be eligible for a discount on membership if they attend. This is a great opportunity to become part of a growing network of primary practitioners.

  • Attend workshops

Included in the conference will be evidence-based workshops on reading, writing and vocabulary. These sessions will provide strategies to take away and use in the classroom, to drive an improved reading culture.

  • Hear from primary experts

Conference speakers include primary education and policy experts, as well as representatives from within the organisation presenting on the latest research and programmatic activity.
