Introducing Poems for Remembrance
Join us as we mark National Poetry Day through our live event with Irish-Indian poet and writer Nikita Gill where she will explore Remembrance through sharing her poem 'Who You Are' and through introducing pupils to a variety of different poetry writing techniques, concluding the event with a Q&A. Alongside the event, the National Literacy Trust, in partnership with Royal British Legion has created a sequence of learning activities to be completed before, and after the live event.
About this event
Date: Tuesday 1 October
Time: 10.00am
Recommended for: pupils aged 7 to 9 years (LKS2 Years 3 and 4/P4-P5)
Join us for this live event where your class, together with pupils from across the UK, will meet poet Nikita Gill and listen to her reading of 'Who You Are', a poem which tells a story of Remembrance. Pupils will also be guided to reflect on different poetry techniques and the theme of Remembrance, and explore ways in which they can create their own Remembrance poetry.
Classroom resources supporting the event
To help you mark National Poetry Day, the National Literacy Trust, in partnership with Royal British Legion has created a four-part learning sequence which aims to support teachers in further exploring Remembrance poetry and supporting their pupils in writing their own poetry inspired by Remembrance and poet Nikita Gill.
