On Sunday 7 November, Get Suffolk Reading kicked off their activity in Stowmarket with some festive book gifting at the local Christmas Fayre.
Despite near freezing temperatures, Stowmarket Project Manager Sarah Maidment received a hugely warm welcome from the community, with over 200 adults and 100 children visiting. As a result, over 170 books and several comics were gifted to families throughout the day.
A huge thank you goes out to the team at Red Gables who supported the team, keeping them warm with mince pies and cups of tea, as well as local schools who kindly promoted our stall to local families, ensuring we reached as many people as possible.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my first event in the community as part of Get Suffolk Reading. The passion for reading amongst families was immediately obvious, with several people telling us how much they enjoy discussing books as a family and hearing about the great activities going on in schools to promote a love of books. I’m really looking forward to planning future activity in Stowmarket and watching this community campaign develop.”
