To celebrate the launch of Get Suffolk Reading we offered families the opportunity to celebrate an early year’s worker who had gone above and beyond, for children throughout the pandemic.
Jessica Mace from Little Hoppers Preschool in Felixstowe won a visit from Eoin McLaughlin and local illustrator Polly Dunbar for her nursery class, after being nominated by a friend for her hard work in 2020. Her nomination was:
“Jessica Mace, has worked so hard this last year completing her teacher training, and supporting the children to develop further all while bringing up her little boy (3yrs) and reading to him every day without fail, which shows as his language and love for books is amazing and has been since a young age. I think Jess deserves this to show her what a fantastic job she is doing both in the setting and bringing up her little boy x”.
Children were treated to an exciting story telling session form Eoin McLaughlin who read While We Can’t Hug and The Longer the Wait, the Bigger the Hug. Polly Dunbar then taught them exactly how to draw the characters from the book and children all decided they would most like to hug a dinosaur!
Jessica Mace, winner of the competition said: “Thank you for today, everyone really enjoyed it. We visited our local library on Friday and the children found [The Hug] book in there and they were so excited!”
Families can view story telling sessions and illustration videos from the pair on this webpage.
