The Great Green Read
The Great Green Read 2025/26
Developed by the National Literacy Trust in Doncaster in partnership with Rotary, the Great Green Read is a year-round programme designed to inspire children to learn, think, and take action on some of the issues that matter most: nature, sustainability, and caring for our planet.
This year we’re excited to launch a brand-new creative writing competition for primary schools: Dear Ed. Pupils will have the unique opportunity to write directly to Ed Miliband MP, sharing their hopes, ideas, and visions for the future of our planet. Winners will receive fantastic prizes for themselves and their school.
Alongside the competition, schools and families can look forward to a line-up of engaging activities, including our virtual launch event for primary schools.
Keep up with all the latest updates and opportunities by following us on Facebook.

Join us on Earth Day to find out more about conservation and Doncaster's place in the natural world with author Catherine Barr. We'll also meet Alex Powell, who will tell us about how and why Doncaster itself is a special biosphere zone. This event is ideal for Key Stage 2, but all age groups are welcome.
