Young Readers: Programme Celebration

Many children in disadvantaged areas leave primary school unable to read at the expected level. Through the Young Readers Programme, we support these children to develop their love of books and reading identity through a series of fun events focused on book choice and reading for enjoyment.

Our upcoming My Commonwealth Story festival will use the excitement and passion surrounding the upcoming 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games to motivate and inspire people of all ages to engage with literacy.

As part of the festival, we are inviting our Young Readers programme partner schools to participate in an inspirational visit to Birmingham Repertory Theatre and the Library of Birmingham.

Pupils will enjoy a drama workshop and backstage tour at the theatre; and complete a quiz, hear stories and choose books to take home at the Library of Birmingham.

Sign-up details

School sign-ups for this event are restricted to our two Young Readers programme partner schools in Birmingham.

Birmingham Stories partners and stakeholders are warmly invited to attend as spectators. Please email birminghamstories@literacytrust.org.uk to request a guest ticket.
