Young Birmingham Poets: Project Celebration

The National Literacy Trust's Young Poets programme helps to inspire pupils to write poetry of their own.

Following a visit to a cultural venue, schools taking part receive a workshop with a poet or spoken word artist to help the pupils shape and develop their poems. Teachers taking part in the programme previously have reported improvements in their pupils' attitudes to writing and attainment.

This year, Young Birmingham Poets inspired 1600 pupils from Birmingham schools to engage with the 2022 Commonwealth Games through poetry writing, inspired by memorable experiences at our partner cultural venues.

We will be celebrating everyone’s involvement in the programme with an afternoon of poetry performances, word games and live music.

Young Birmingham Poets is funded by Audible.
