Ukraine War support and resources

At the National Literacy Trust, we, like so many, have been shocked by the war in Ukraine and the appalling suffering that it's creating.

It is estimated that over 100,000 children will arrive in the UK having faced the shocking and terrible suffering of war in Ukraine. We know that reading can support emotional wellbeing and comfort children and families who have lost everything. We are passionately preparing to do all we can to help.

Support for Ukrainian families

We are in the process of developing resources for Ukrainian families arriving in the UK. In the meantime if you are a Ukrainian family, or are supporting a Ukrainian family, you can email us to receive one of our Welcome Reading Packs. These packs are sent out at the end of each month.

Our Time Together booklet is a colourful and easy-to-read guide that is full of suggestions for how parents can support their young child's learning at home. We have made this available in Ukrainian, Russian and English to help support the learning of Ukrainian families arriving in the UK.

For schools and settings

As teachers and practitioners we know you will be supporting the children and families you work with who are affected by the crisis in Ukraine. This could included those fleeing the war, those hosting refugee families, or any children finding news about the crisis upsetting and overwhelming.

Linked below, you'll find resources that will help you support wellbeing, combat the spread of disinformation, and welcome newly arrived families.
