I write books about history and sport. I endeavour to use children's passion for both to enthuse them about reading for pleasure.

I have been running my Football Reading Game and Rugby Reading Game to promote reading for pleasure through sports newspapers, magazines and books. The National Literacy Trust called this 'guerrilla reading promotion at its finest.'

I also talk about how anyone can be an author and how to go about it during this sessions, with a view to empowering the children.

My history books focus mostly on WW1 and WW2 and the Holocaust. I am happy to devise bespoke events around these topics to blend in with schools' curriculum work in those areas. I have also covered the Iron Age, Romans and Vikings in my books.

I also run sessions on planning, writing and editing. These are based on modelling skills and techniques that the children can use later on.

I always make time to chat with the children and often my events go off at a tangent that the children want it to - with the teacher's blessing, of course.
