Free National Storytelling Week classroom resource for KS1/P2-3
Supported by Amazon, we have created a fun, interactive storytelling project for National Storytelling Week with former Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho, for pupils aged 5 to 7 (KS1/P2-3), inspired by his picture book Our Tower (illustrated by Richard Johnson, Frances Lincoln Children's Books). The classroom resource is based on the theme ‘Reimagine your world’ and it is designed to inspire a love of story creation.
Alongside a week-long series of classroom activities, we are running a free, live storytelling workshop with Joseph Coelho at 10am to 10:45am on Thursday 6 February 2025. The event will be a source of inspiration for students’ stories and is a crucial part of the week-long storytelling project.
What happens if my class cannot attend the live workshop?
If you are unable to attend, a recording of the workshop will be available on YouTube and uploaded to this page.
What are the Key stage 1/P2-3 classroom resources?
Our National Storytelling Week classroom resources for key stage 1/P2-3 provide a week-long learning sequence for you to deliver, which supports students to create stories inspired by Joseph’s creative process.
You may like to consider taking time out of your normal timetable to deliver the project, or to build it into your literacy and English focus for the week. The learning sequence is developed with the national curriculum in mind, and the curriculum links can be found at the end of the resource.
Download links can be found below on this page. To access the links you'll need to be logged in as a member, or to sign up for free.
Supporting video materials
We have three videos made by Joseph Coelho which accompany the classroom resource. Please find them below, and follow the instructions in the resource pack for how to use them alongside the classroom activities.
We also have a family resource for children to complete at home, which will be uploaded here soon.
We'd love to see your pupils' writing
At the end of the week’s activities, please submit your students’ work to us for the opportunity to have it published in the National Storytelling Week Anthology and to receive individual feedback from Amazon. Submission instructions will be live on our website closer to the time.
