We launch Swindon Stories with literacy bus tour

09 Feb 2018

Swindon bus launch

We were delighted to launch our National Literacy Trust Hub in Swindon yesterday, which will be known locally as Swindon Stories.

Key local partners gathered at Swindon Central Library in the morning to find out more about our plans for the town and join a round table discussion. We then set off on a literacy bus tour of six local schools, thanks to Thamesdown, Swindon's Bus Company.

At each school, pupils enjoyed a performance from local musicians AJ and Ant from The Tribe, who had written a special song about the importance of literacy skills. Pupils were also gifted a brand new book and a Swindon Stories bookmark to take home, while each school received a £100 voucher from WHSmith to spend on books and reading resources.

The schools that took part in the tour were: Lawn Manor Academy, Grange Junior School, Kingdown School, Bridlewood Primary School, Swindon Academy and Nova Hreod Academy.

In partnership with Swindon Borough Council and funded by WHSmith, Swindon Stories will encourage the whole town to make reading, writing and talking a priority, encompassing a range of projects and initiatives to give young people the literacy skills they need to succeed in life.
