There’s snow place like Blackpool this Christmas!

Get Blackpool Reading has launched a series of festive activities and donated hundreds of books to the community this December to encourage children to keep reading over the holidays.

Get Blackpool Reading is a campaign we run in partnership with Blackpool Council and Blackpool Opportunity Area, which launched in February to raise literacy levels across the town.

The campaign has launched two new activity sheets for children in the town to complete in the run up to the festive season.

Children and young people have the chance to design their dream Christmas with their favourite character from a book. Families can print and fill in our activity sheet or use it as a guide.

Get Blackpool Reading has also been working with Blackpool Libraries and Blackpool Family Hubs to ensure families they are working with have access to books this Christmas. The Family Hubs, in partnership with Blackpool Libraries, will be distributing dream Christmas activity sheets with approx 1,000 books donated by Get Blackpool Reading and their partners.

Parents with younger children can also download our dress the snowman activity to colour in and make decisions on how to dress their snowman.

The campaign has also been working with Better Start Blackpool to distribute printed copies of this early years activity to nurseries in the town.

Meanwhile, Susan Brownrigg, author Gracie Fairshaw and the Mysterious Guest, has been inspiring children to take part in the dream Christmas activity on the Get Blackpool Reading Facebook page.
