The National Literacy Trust are hosting a FREE secondary CPD webinar led by Professor Ruth Page which will cover:
- What teachers need to know about mental health literacy and misinformation
- How to help your students think critically about their online content through game-based learning
- Top tips for staying relevant and up to date
About the webinar
The webinar is based on research from the ESRC-funded project, Influencer Stories of Mental Health and Young People. It includes access to the free educational resources Dr. Page and her team have developed which help students evaluate misinformation about mental health.
Why is this an important topic?
Having the skills to think critically about online content matters especially in relation to mental health literacy, where one in three young people are turning to social media for ‘DIY help’ for their mental health (STEM4, 2023).We joined with researchers from the University of Birmingham to ask teachers who attended the National Literacy Trust Secondary Conference in July 2025 their thoughts on how they taught mental health literacy and what challenges they encountered. Over one hundred teachers responded to our survey and the webinar is the direct result of these fascinating findings.
