Salford is the 20th most deprived local area in the country
According to the 2019 Indices of Multiple Deprivation, it also has a higher than average rate of children eligible for free school meals.

Only 48.6% of five-year-olds from Salford’s most disadvantaged areas achieved a good level of development in 2023
This is compared to 69.3% of their peers from non-disadvantaged areas.

In 2023, just 2 in 5 children in the North West said they enjoyed reading in their free time
This is the lowest level we've recorded in our Annual Literacy Survey in almost 20 years.
