Katy Cawkwell

Katy Cawkwell

Statement

Katy has a passion for sharing myth, folktale and legend with children and young people. She can tailor a programme to particular topics and is flexible about working with small groups or performing to a whole school.

Dramatic, interactive, inspiring performances: Katy’s characters spring to life in the imagination and the audience becomes utterly caught up in the action. Teachers often comment that they have never seen their pupils sit so still for so long and are impressed by their retention of the story and the quality of the follow-up work it inspires.

Fun, engaging, educational workshops: Katy has material and activities, adjusted for each age group, to develop listening, storytelling and story making skills, creativity and performance.

Years of experience: as well as countless school visits since 1996, Katy has worked for the educational team at many well-known institutions including the British Museum, Whipsnade Zoo, the Museum of London, Plymouth Box and the Story Museum.

Repertoire: traditional tales from around the world for pre-schoolers to adults, in particular Norse, Egyptian & Greek mythology (Katy has a degree in Classics), Irish & Arthurian legend, British folk & fairy tale.

Shows include: Magical Bag of Tales, Grimms Tales, Tales of the Trojan Wars, The Boy & his Horse, Theseus, Perseus and Medusa, The Hunter & the Blue Dove, The Story of the Mayflower, Boudica, Shakespeare Retold.
